Determining the Domain Name Value

With so many companies already having websites, newer companies may find that the web domain name they want has already been taken. You may be fortunate to own one of those sought after sites and have no real idea of its value. Just because you only pay a small amount each year to re-register your domain name you may be surprised to discover just how much others will pay you to sell it to them.

Today, because the domain name industry continues to expand, you will find several companies that are offering their domain name appraisal services to assess your domain name value. Some of those companies who wanted to assess your domain name value offer such service for free with the use of an automated online "valuation wizard" approach, while most of the others are charging for a more personalized valuation.
But determining your domain name value is alsopossible without expensive domain name appraisal services offered by those companies. How do you do this? Well if you know a few guidelines for identifying a domain name value, and just to help you further here they are.

First of all if you are serious for identifying your domain name value you should be aware if you receive unsolicited offers to buy the domain name. According to some Internet experts for determining a domain name value, if you get emailed offers to purchase the domain name without it being registered for sale anywhere in the world then that certainly shows that your domain name value has a certain value already.

Secondly, in appraising your domain name value it is also important that you are aware that if the domain name is a .com domain others will pay more. This is because it is generally considered that a .com domain name is still the most sought after domain extention. Unlike other top-level domains the .com domain will have five to ten times or maybe more the value of the same than with say a .net or .biz domain. Some of those .com domain names are really worth millions more than other extensions. So if you know that your domain name is a .com then there is a greater possibility that your domain name value is high.

The third consideration in determining the domain name value is how long the domain name is. We all know that there are longer domain names available today, so with that in principle, that the shorter the domain name, the higher the domain name value. You should note though that in making a domain name shorter it has to be clearly recognisable ibm.com is probably worth a lot more than dzvq.com for example.
It is important to know that just as a good domain name is worth millions, conversely a bad domain name is worthless.

For example, when determining your domain name value, check the spelling of your domain name. A misspelled domain name has a poor domain name value unless your buyer can't spell either. Also knowing if the entity the domain name refers to is singular or plural will help you to determine your domain name value. For example, book.com is much worthy than books.com, or the domain name Buydvds.com is most likely worth than Buydvd.com. According to the experts, this is one of the toughest domain name value factors that should be considered.

There are still others that deserved to be considered, how many people are after your domain name for one. However, some of those are beyond the scope of this article. But for now you have been given a few of the major and biggest considerations for determining the value of your own name, or indeed if you are thinking of buying an exisiting one.
